Sweet & Sour Meatballs

Ingredients

    For the meatballs
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1 1/2 c bread or cracker crumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 medium onion, cut in rings
  • For the sauce
  • 1 c ketchup
  • 1/4 c water
  • 3 tbs brown sugar
  • 4 tsp white vinegar
  • 4 tbs Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine the meatball ingredients, except the onion.
  3. Form meat mixture into one-inch balls and brown in a skillet. They do not need to be cooked through, just browned on the outside.
  4. Place meatballs in a single layer in casserole baking dish (I often use a lasagna pan).
  5. Place sliced onion rings on top of the layer of meatballs.
  6. In a saucepan, combine the sauce ingredients.
  7. Stir frequently and bring to a boil.
  8. Remove from heat and pour sauce over the meatballs.
  9. Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake for one hour.
  10. Serve over rice.
